EN
A grinder is a common tool that one can find in a skatepark. Made of concrete or wood with metal edges, a grinder can have a variable size. It is used for grinding, a technique (trick) that involves the skateboarder sliding along its surface mainly with the trucks of the skateboard.
The process started from the finding of a grinder in a skatepark in Graz, which was worn to the point of its breakage. The work consists in the replacement of this old grinder with a reproduction made in concrete with a formwork.
The sculpture has been painted over twice; a first layer of gold painting has been covered by a layer of white painting. Later on, the sculpture has been carried to the skatepark and installed in the place of the original grinder for seven days.
The wreckage visible on the surface of the artwork is due to the action of the skaters who used it as a grinder while it was installed in the park. By sliding along with the trucks, they scratched away the white painting, till the golden layer emerged. The sculpture has then been transposed from the park to the art space and exhibited with the photograph of the first skater who used it as a grinder.
